Good News

It's finally happened - I got a job!

Okay, technically, it will be my 5th since I got here, but this one is permanent. And it is definitely the first one that really feels like I'm embarking on something exciting! I'm an Editor for a transcription service. They take audio from seminars, conferences and other business events or even legal depositions and turn it into written reports. The editors then make sure that it is all correct - so really a proof reader rather than editor, but I'm thrilled.

Yes, it is a bit of a career change. I still enjoy marketing, but I am just not finding anything in Waterford that I feel I would be a good fit. Since I've had some time to think, I've been looking to change my career to something that would be more flexible in terms of location. Something that I could eventually do from home so it wouldn't matter where we live. And now, I've got my start in that direction. This is also the first time that I'll be in a job where one of the requirements was an English degree!

My office is downtown right on the central shopping square of Waterford. In the office are my boss, who is the manager for the Waterford office, and another editor. There are a couple hundred transcribers and translators that work from home as well. The company was started in France and has offices in Paris, London, Madrid, Frankfurt, New York and Irvine, CA. I start the new job tomorrow, so I'll post more details later.

I'll miss hanging out with Pixie and having quiet weekends where all of the shopping and house work has been done during the week. I won't miss walking to the store just to make sure that I have a conversation with someone for the day!

Thanks for all of your support and good thoughts in my job search.

Congratulations, Polly. I've had many years as a writer and editor, and I hope you will enjoy it. Miss you here in Bellingham. We have a new Irish bar (oh, it's about 2 years old now) and they make wonderful Black and Tans. Chuck has become fond of Smithwicks, too.

PS: Tell the hubby that my Irish citizenship application is in.
