I can't resist - this article is very good, and it is a chance for me to get on one of my favourite soap boxes:

In other holiday news, Slim and I will be experiencing our first Christmas in Ireland. So far, I can report that the consumer urge surrounding Christmas is alive and well in Ireland. And, without the calming factor of Thanksgiving, starts even earlier here! I witnessed a woman buying a fake, pink Christmas tree from the grocery store on HALLOWEEN! Like I could make that up.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, we did have one, but it was very small. It was basically Sunday dinner of turkey breast with most of the trimmings. Two key trimmings were missing - the right kind of cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Sadly, I think that these are my two favourite things on that day! We tried a sweet potato pie that was supposed to be more pumpkin-y than pumpkin pie, but, no. We did find a new tradition though - buttered cabbage as a veg. Nice way to incorporate traditions from our new home and DE-licious.
Christmas holidays will be spent mostly at home eating, walking, napping - the best way to spend the holidays in our opinion. For Christmas dinner, we are teaming up with our German friends which should be loads of fun.
Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season!

Hey Polly,
I was trying to find a way to post on dew's blog, but unsuccessful I am. Please pass along b-day wishes for me and I hope you both are having a lovely time over there with pink trees skulking about.
Best,
Kari Q.
